We believe that to succeed, today’s mining companies must embrace and integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations in all business decisions.
Our corporate vision underlines what sustainability means at DM and what we want to achieve, and is rooted in a belief that to operate successfully we must:

Deliver long term value to all our stakeholders;
Manage our ESG impacts.

Our sustainability (ESG) concept is built on three pillars and integrates into all business decisions:

A pragmatic approach

At DM we recognize that the effective implementation of our sustainable development framework will deliver real and tangible benefits to the Company and its stakeholders, as well as will in the long run allow meeting the country’s economic and community development objectives. As such, the extensive experience of the Company in such environment and the highest quality of works in conjunction with the optimized cost structure led to optimal solution in mining business.

A positive approach

DM Management team has been operating in mining business for about 60 years and not only survived through the most difficult times of economic transition but increased its capacity and strengthened its position in international projects. No environment is perfect for development in mining; there are always negative factors. Any approach in such environment must build on the positives that do exist and seek to minimize the impact of the negatives. Therefore, a positive approach is needed to overcome all those negatives and difficulties.

Communication

The multiplicity and diversity of companies, markets, and industries, as well as means that high levels of communication and consultation will be required among the different partners and actors, as the business evolves. DM approaches its business operations by establishing sound communications channels with all relevant parties to ensure the coherence of approach necessary for success.

Flexibility

A business of such complexity and scale requires flexibility in its operations. DM is equipped with all necessary tools and ability to assure the promptest adjustment of human and technical resources, plans and strategies to the requirements of rapidly changing environment.

Human rights

We understand that we can have an impact on human rights everywhere we operate and beyond our activities.

Within our Human Rights Policy, we are committed to upholding all globally recognized human rights in accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Other international standards and guidelines that we actively follow include the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Global Compact.

We reaffirm our pledge to uphold globally recognized human rights in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as core international standards such as the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

We follow national laws as a minimum, and where they are more stringent, we apply our own standards. When national laws contradict our values, we seek out ways to facilitate the implementation of international standards, such as through multi-stakeholder dialogue. We could also rethink our ability to work in such areas.

From our suppliers and clients to joint venture partners, we understand the importance of managing human rights risks in our business partnerships. As a result, we look for ways to assist our corporate partners in upholding international human rights principles.

Our goal is to remove deaths and life-altering injuries from our activities, as well as to reduce possible injury and health hazards on our site on a continuous basis. Our dedication to safety is reflected in our Occupational Health and Safety Policy, which includes the following actions:

International best practices
In the absence of relevant legislation, we will use industry best practices and guidelines to meet or exceed all applicable regulatory criteria in the Republic of Sudan.

Methodical approach
Creating and maintaining OH&S management systems that allow for a systematic approach to reducing safety and health risks at our mine.

Long term goal
Providing the necessary leadership and services for an efficient and long-term OH&S management structure.

Safety-conscious
